The inaugural Mr. Muscleman and Windylane Hanover series for 3-year-old trotters got underway Thursday night at the Meadowlands. Both late-closers are for trotters that are non-winners of three pari-mutuel races or $75,000 up to and including Feb. 1, 2010, with the Mr. Muscleman for colts and geldings and the Windylane Hanover for fillies.

Thursday’s $18,000 leg of the Mr. Muscleman went to R Sam, who scored a 1 ¼-length win over Tough Challenger and Jailhouse Scorpion in 1:56.1. The winning son of Revenue S won for the fifth time in seven starts this year—he was unraced at two—for driver Brian Sears, trainer Anthony Salerno, and owner Stefan Dorosz.

Boinga scored a gate-to-wire 1:56.1 win in the $18,000 leg of the Windylane Hanover for driver David Miller and trainer Brian Roland. Yansky was two lengths in arrears at the wire to take runner-up honors, with Special Appeal third.

A daughter of Windsong’s Legacy, Boinga won for the first time this year in two starts for owners Anthony and Carol Risi and Bernard O’Brien.

The second round of both trotting series is scheduled for Thursday night, May 13, with the $70,000 (est.) finals on Thursday, May 20.
