Rucker Denied Stay

Trainer Ken Rucker's request for a stay of his suspension was denied Tuesday by the Superior Court of New Jersey's Appellate Division. Rucker was seeking a stay of the Meadowlands Racetrack's suspension of entries of horses trained by him. Appellate Judge Joseph Yannotti issued the denial.

With the denial of emergent relief, Rucker is still not permitted to enter horses to race at the Meadowlands Racetrack until further notice.

"We are grateful that the Appellate Court ruled in our favor," said Meadowlands Vice President for Racing Operations Chris McErlean. "While Mr. Rucker is afforded additional avenues in order to pursue a stay, it will now be a longer process. As we indicated before, we feel we have a valid agreement in place and will continue to defend that position."

Since the racing program of May 24, the Meadowlands has refused Rucker entries, an action triggered by a positive for the performance enhancer EPO (Erythropoietin) for the horse Highland Pride A, who won the eighth race April 30, 2006 at the Meadowlands. (Meadowlands Release)
