Ruling involving Tug River Princess overturned

Return Home
August 29, 2008 Send To A Friend  | Print View

The Delaware Harness Racing Commission (DHRC) has issed a ruling overturning penalties against trainer Trevor Warwick involving the filly Tug River Princess, with the ruling reading, "we conclude that substantial evidence has not demonstrated that (Trevor) Warwick violated DHRC rules when racing horse Tug River Princess in the 8th race at Dover Downs" on April 10, as found in a judges ruling.

The Delaware commission had previously ruled that Warwick was not the actual trainer of Tug River Princess--that it was Ross Croghan. It fined Warwick $7,500 and suspended him six months, and ordered the filly be unplaced from her 8 ˝-length, 1:51.2 victory in the $100,000 Delaware Breeders Fund final that she won.

After winning her first two races of the year and on the eve of her eventual win in the $62,500 Tender Loving Care final Feb. 29 at the Meadowlands, Tug River Princess was purchased by Let It Ride Stables and Robert Cooper Stables (and later Jerry Silva) and sent to New Jeresey-based trainer Ross Croghan. She then returned to Dover March 26 for the Breeders Fund eliminations, and Delaware-based Warwick was listed as trainer.

Following that victory Tug River Princess went back to the Meadowlands where Croghan was again listed as trainer for her next start in the Blossom Series, which preceed her return to Dover for the $100,000 Delaware final, which again had Warwick listed as trainer.
