Saginaw may close

Saginaw Harness Raceway co-owner Marshall Davis told the Saginaw News that because of the defeat of Proposal 1 in the state, "I don't know if Saginaw (which opened in 1980) will be around in 2005."



The passage of the proposal, which called for a statewide vote for any expansion of gambling and essentially renders meaningless the passage of bills allowing slot machines at the racetracks by both the House and Senate in the state, prompted Davis to add, "There is a really good chance we'll close."



Davis said that he and his partners had purchased an option on 120 acres of land in the anticipation of a new racetrack in addition to the introduction of the slot machines.
