The Lexington Selected Yearling Sale closed out its 2006 auction with a 24 percent increase in the average price per yearling. On a beautiful Sunday fall afternoon in the Bluegrass, a good mix of buyers were still shopping for yearlings, which propelled the final session to a five percent increase in the average price.
The overall average for the sale was $39,248, up from $31,654 in 2005. Through the first four sessions of the sale the average price was up 35 percent. The average for this year’s final session was $15,677 versus $14,990 in 2005.
The total gross for the sale was $30,810,000, up from $24,690,500 in 2005.
