A short time off proved what the doctor ordered for Samandar, winner of a $11,000 pace and Little Michael B scored a 1:50 victory on an overcast and foggy Sunday at Dover Downs. Red-hot driver Corey Callahan notched win number five by guiding Samandar to victory in his first 2013 start, a 1:52 decision in the Sunday feature. Owned by M&L of Delaware and trained by Bruce Saunders, Samandar, a 5 year old by American Ideal-Lady Sammie, has now won $343,489, lifetime. Ideal Vintage (Eric Carlson) finished second and Cracker Pullet (Eddie Davis Jr.) third.
Earlier, Little Michael B racked up a 1:50 performance with Ron Pierce driving in a $9,000 pace. The Cam's Card Shark-Maid West 4-year-old gelding is owned by Baron Racing and VIP Internet Stables and trained by Josh Green. Pierce was able to pull away in deep stretch after fighting off Highbeam Rusty N (Callahan). Luscious Al (Victor Kirby) came on to take second for the third straight time. Highbeam Rusty N hung on for third.
In addition to Callahan's five wins, Hall of Famer Pierce, trainer Les Givens and owner Nanticoke Racing made it to the winner's circle three times. Trainers Mike Hall and Walter Callahan had two winners each. (Dover Downs)
