Sam Houston Race Park in Texas has announced it is introducing a "rookie room" for first-time customers when the track opens its Thoroughbred season the day after Thanksgiving, Friday, Nov. 27. Staff members will be at the entrance to the track's main building and will invite customers who appear to be new to the sport to the "rookie room" for a lesson in racing.
Persons in the room will hear an overview of racetrack operations and also be given a short lesson on wagering, all of which will be followed up by a question-and-answer session. The newcomers will also be taken to the paddock to look at the horses before a race, and then follow those horses trackside for a up-front look at the race.
