Spam Spade coasted to one-length victory in the $100,000 Charles I. Smith Final on Friday afternoon at Freehold Raceway, hitting the wire in 1:57.4.

The Smith, carded as race seven, is restricted to New Jersey-sired three-year-old trotters and is sponsored by the Standardbred Breeders & Owners Association of New Jersey.

Spam Spade is a Miller family project---he is driven by Andy Miller, trained by Julie Miller and owned by the Andy Miller Stable Inc. He now has $192,990 in earnings this season with six wins in 13 starts.

Sam Spade, a son of Dream Vacation [$2.60, $2.20, $2.10], held off a pair of Yankee Glide sons, Star Ledger [$3.40, $3.00], second by a length, and Native Yankee [$3.20], third by two lengths.

Spam Spade holds the Freehold track record for 3-year-old trotting geldings with his 1:55.4 effort on Aug. 15 in the opening round of the New Jersey Sire Stakes. He also won the $85,000 NJSS Final on Sept. 5. (SBOA/New Jersey)
