Bill Sanders’ Sand E Fiftyfive ($38.40) won the $101,700 Miller Lite Courageous Lady for 3-year-old filly pacers at Northfield Park on Saturday night by a half-length over Cams Van Go. Favored Palazzo Princess was third.
Sand E Fiftyfive was timed in 1:55.4 for the mile. Tony Hall drove the winner, a daughter of I Am A Fool-Scootin Mercedes, for locally-based trainer Tye Loy. Favored Palazzo Princess took the lead and hit the quarter in :26.2 after a brief duel with Save My Shark. She then yielded to Singnoevil Hanover, who reached the half in :55.1 and was still leading at the 1:24.4 three-quarters, as the field tightened. Cams Van Go moved three wide to challenge as Save My Shark, who had pulled at the half, tired. The entire field was within three lengths at the top of the stretch as Sand E Fiftyfive moved four wide around the final turn to get the win, her first of the season. The $50,850 winner's share of the purse pushed her career earnings to $155,561 in 14 starts. (Northfield Park)
