Sand Vic, a 5-year-old stallion by Mr. Vic, qualified at the Meadowlands Thursday morning with a powerful wire-to-wire score by 15 lengths in 1:55.1. The 5-year-old mare Mystical Sunshine finished fifth in the race.

Trainer Trond Smedshammer was in the sulky behind Sand Vic, who finished second in last year’s Allerage Trot, Nat Ray, and Cutler Memorial. He sports a lifetime mark of 1:54.1f taken at age three and has career earnings of $738,572. Smedshammer has reportedly been talking with Swedish racing promoters about possibly racing the horse in the Elitlopp.

Mystical Sunshine trotted her mile in 1:58.3. The daughter of Yankee Glide took a mark of 1:52.4 last year and boosted her earnings to $981,396.
