Santa Claus comes to Wdb

November 29, 2006 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Keeping the momentum behind what is quickly becoming a tradition among the Woodbine drivers' colony, top Canadian reinsmen Chris Christoforou, Luc Ouellette, Rick Zeron, Jody Jamieson and Mark MacDonald are all donating their five-percent commissions from selected race dates to the Jim Proudfoot Corner of the Toronto Star Santa Claus Fund.

The Toronto Star Santa Claus Fund annually provides 45,000 gift boxes for needy children at Christmas, and with The Star covering all administration costs, every cent donated ends up getting to the kids. For over 100 years now, the fund has helped provide sweaters, socks, mitts, hats, books, toys and candy for those in need.

Christoforou, Ouellette, Zeron, Jamieson and MacDonald have already begun to accumulate money for the fund, as the talented group of drivers donated their commissions from the Tuesday, Nov. 21, card of racing at Woodbine.

The quintet of pilots also donated their commissions from Tuesday night's card of racing, in addition to the upcoming programmes on Tuesday, Dec. 5, and Tuesday, Dec. 12.

Established drivers Paul MacDonell and Phil Hudon, who are also staunch supporters of the fund, will also be making personal donations.

In 2004, the group of Woodbine-based drivers donated more than $14,000 to the cause, while in 2005 that number rose to over $15,000. (WEG)
