Driven aggressively from post eight by Dan Cappello Jr., Pablo Angus outfought a stubborn Eric’s Image (Frank Coppola Jr.) for the early lead in the Friday feature, pacing confidently on the front-end through a brisk opening quarter mile in :27.2 before slowing things down with middle splits of :57 and 1:26.4. Pablo Angus entered the stretch with a confident 1 ¼-length lead, andthe result was never truly in doubt as the gelding comfortably held off all late challengers to tally a half-length triumph Pablo Angus returned $4.50, $2.70, and $4.00 for the victory. Eric’s Image brought in $6.00 and $6.10 for second, while Tornado Alley (ChrisLong) paid $6.80 for third. Owned by Mario Bourgea and trained by Bert Belanger, Pablo Angus has gotten his picture taken in four of his last six starts, finishing no worse than second in each of his last eight outings.
