The 1,324 video lottery terminals at Saratoga Gaming and Raceway paid out $128,587 in contributions to nonprofit agencies in Saratoga and Albany counties in December, according to a story in the Times Union.

The racino donated $90,000 to nine agencies. The Saratoga Gaming and Raceway Foundation, based in Ballston Spa and overseen by the county, contributed $38,587 to eight agencies.

"We hope the program grows over the years to enable us to fund more organizations who are serving the important needs of Saratoga County residents," said Supervisor Thomas Wood, R-Saratoga, chairman of the foundation board.

Saratoga Gaming and Raceway contributed $25,000 to the foundation for distribution, while the Saratoga Harness Horsepersons Association gave $10,000. The remaining funds came from the foundation's earnings.

The Saratoga Care Foundation, the Saratoga County Economic Opportunity Council, Saratoga Center for the Family, the Skidmore College Palamountain Scholarship Fund, Shelters of Saratoga, Domestic Violence Services and Rape Crisis of Saratoga County, Franklin Community Center, Boys & Girls Club of Albany and Yaddo each received $10,000 from the racino.

The foundation gave $15,000 to the Prevention Council; $4,596 to the Center for Problem Gambling; $5,000 to Cornell Cooperative Extension of Saratoga County; $2,491 for the Franklin Community Center; $2,500 to the Homemade Theater at the Spa Little Theater; $3,500 to Domestic Violence and Rape Crisis Services of Saratoga County; $3,500 to YMCA of Saratoga; and $2,000 for the Christopher Dailey Foundation.
Domestic Violence Services and Franklin Community Center received donations from both groups.

The foundation board's other members are board of Supervisors Chairman Harry Gutheil, R-Moreau; Supervisor Joanne Yepsen, D-Saratoga Springs; Skip Carlson, the racino's vice president for community relations and special projects; and George Karam, of the SHHA.
