Saturday's Dexter Cup elims opens Grand Circuit action

The Grand Circuit begins its 2008 season Saturday with three $20,552 eliminations in the Dexter Cup for 3-year-old colt trotters. The top two in each elimination, plus two third-place finishers, will advance to next Saturday’s (May 10) $160,000 (est.) final.

Here are the fields, in post position order:

Race 1: 1–Wildcat Shoes–Daniel Dube; 2-Yankee Gospel-Jack Baggitt; 3-Handoverthesweets-Jeff Gregory; 4-First Pleasurelane-Ron Pierce; 5-BK’s Stiff-Jeff Gregory; and 6-Arsonman-Ray Schnittker.

Race 3: 1-Crownprince Volo-Brian Cross; 2-Tifn Hanover-Ron Pierce; 3-Celebrity Rocky-Brian Sears; 4-Infuriated-Brian Sears; 5-They Took The Bar-Ray Schnittker; and 6-Oh So White-Andy Miller.

Race 4: 1-Star Ledger-Steve Smith; 2-Ringside Muscle-Cat Manzi; 3-Built By Lindy-Kenny Kidd; 4-All You Want-Jim Doherty; 5-Holiday Credit-Ron Pierce; and 6-Napoleon-Stephane Bouchard.

Looking ahead: Grand Circuit action at Freehold continues next week with  the $110,000 (est.) Lady Suffolk for 3-year-old filly trotters on Friday, May 9. In addition to the Dexter Cup final, the Saturday, May 10 card also features the $145,000 (est.) Helen Dancer Memorial for 3-year-old filly pacers.

Following this season-opening stop, the first of 20 on the 2008 schedule, Grand Circuit action will resume in late June at Hoosier Park in Indiana and the Meadowlands in New Jersey. (Grand Circuit)
