SC has committees for Wagering Action Plan

June 12, 2008 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Standardbred Canada's Wagering Action Plan is moving forward and industry participants on all five committees have been confirmed. Conference calls and/or meetings for all of the five committees are currently underway and by June 20, all committees will have had their initial meetings.

Under the umbrella of the Standardbred Wagering Action Plan, the following five committees were identified as immediate priorities.

Research: To initiate a national and international fact finding mission of studies already undertaken to isolate who the customer and potential customer is, and establish what he/she requires from the racing industry.

Distribution: To look at new models for the exponential growth of distribution channels that could potentially offer Canadian harness racing betting products to the public.

National Pools and Product Development: To look at a comprehensive model aimed at creating wagering opportunities that utilize multiple Canadian racetracks.

Canadian Betting Exchange: To explore potentially offering Canadian standardbred horse wagering through a betting exchange platform.

Racing Product Development: To look at the on-track product and explore areas of potential development on a national scale.

The plan, which was discussed and agreed upon by a wide range of industry stakeholders, was the result of the Standardbred Wagering Conference held in Montreal in late April. The conference was attended by more than 100 industry participants and customers.

The plan, which seeks to address wagering declines across Canadian harness racing, is a first significant step toward reversing current betting trends across the industry. (Standardbred Canada/Trot Insider)
