Trainer Ray Schnittker's regimen of training Hambletonian favorite Deweycheatumnhowe is to ride the 3-year-old colt trotter, and on Wednesday it was former jockey Donna Barton Brothers' turn to climb aboard. Brothers was at Schnittker's farm with NBC producers taping a segment that will be aired during the hour-long Hambletonian coverage on the network on Saturday afternoon from 2-3 p.m.
Brothers rode Dewey--who is also a regular swimmer in a pond on Schnittker's farm in Middletown, N.Y.--for about 20 minutes as filming continued. Last year, Brothers climbed into a sulky behind a horse and drove around the Meadowlands racetrack giving her view. That segment was pre-planned; her ride aboard Dewey was a spur-of-the-moment gesture by Schnittker as he prepared the undefeated trotter for Saturday's $1.5 million Hambletonian final.
