Scioto to have early post

Scioto Downs, which will kick of its 49th season of racing on Friday, May 4, will go with a 6:30 p.m. post time in 2007. The south Columbus track, with 80 dates this year, races Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.

“The earlier post time is in response to requests from our patrons and horsemen, as well as to maximize our outgoing simulcast signal position,” said director of racing Stacy Cahill. “We’re getting plenty of positive feedback about the decision to start an hour earlier.”

Three holiday matinee programs are also slated–Memorial Day, July 4th and Labor Day–this season. Post time those days is 1 p.m.

The Labor Day matinee features the return of the “Best of the Rest” stakes for Ohio Sire Stakes eligibles (excluding the eight top highest point earners). The Best of the Rest is the consolation event for 2 and 3 year olds of both sexes and gaits that competed in OSS action.

Ohio-sired 3 and 4 year olds have plenty of racing opportunities in a variety of late-closing events during the season. The late-closers, for pacers and trotters, start in May with four legs, and feature finals worth up to $11,000. Nomination fees for the seven Ohio-sired events are due April 15.

There is also an open late-closer, the Dream of Glory Trot for 3 year olds and up, that begins in July, and closes June 15. A complete list of conditions is available online at www.sciotodowns.com or by calling director of racing Stacy Cahill at (614) 491-2515. (Scioto Downs)
