Scorpion Moon exploded in the stretch after getting a pocket trip to win the featured Open Handicap trot on Tuesday afternoon at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs. The race carried a purse of $22,000.
Scorpion Moon, a 4-1 choice with Stephane Bouchard in the bike, let Bright Idea do all the work on the front end while he enjoyed the good trip. In the stretch, the 7-year-old gelding sired by Armbro Scorpion sped past Bright Idea and got up to win by a length in a career-best time of 1:53.4. Bright Idea finished second and BJ’s Chinook was third.
Owned by Tracy Brainard of De Leon Springs, Fla., and Andrew Herzog of Monticello, N.Y., Scorpion Moon won for the second time in three races this year and for the 41st time in his career, as he pushed his career earnings over $262,000. (Pocono Downs)
