Smoky Bonz and He's A Nice Guy, both driven by Brian Sears, accounted for victories in two of the five $18,000 opening round divisions of the Clyde Hirt Series Friday night at the Meadowlands. John Campbell also guided a pair of Hirt winners, Ideal Lover and Southwind Apex.

Smoky Bonz, sent off as the 6-5 favorite in the first division, rallied for a 1 ¼-length victory over Khaki's Feather in a lifetime best 1:51.4. The Mark Silva trainee posted his second straight win. The 4-year-old gelded son of Kassa Branca races for the Purple Haze Stables LLC and George Wyman.

Sears was back in the winner's circle three races later with He's A Nice Guy, who held on for a half-length victory over Paragon in 1:51.3. He's A Nice Guy, trained by Richard J. Banca and owned by Antonio Chiaravalle, is a 4-year-old son of Artsplace.

Campbell's back-to-back winners came in the final two divisions of the Hirt. In the ninth race, Campbell guided Ideal Lover to a one-length victory over Deliver The Goods in a career best 1:51.2. Ideal Lover was acquired in November by Michael E. Dolan and Darran Cassar trains the son of Western Ideal.

In the 10th race, Southwind Apex, with Campbell at the lines, found room along the pylons and got up for a two-length tally over the fast-closing Steeler. Southwind Apex, a 4-year-old son of Artiscape trained by Mickey Burke and owned by Sylvia Burke, paced the mile in 1:52.2.

In the second division of the Hirt, Moonlite Jazz, driven by Ron Pierce, caught Real Hanover at the wire for a head victory in 1:52. Moonlite Jazz, a 4 year old by Cam's Card Shark, races for the LA Express Stable LLC and is trained by Mark Ford.

In three $20,000 divisions of the first leg of the Complex Series, the winners were Dave Aint Here (YannickGingras) in 1:52.1, True Force (George Brennan) in 1:51.2 and Fate's Place (David Miller) in 1:50.3.
