Sebastian K and trainer-driver Ake Svanstedt pretty much stole the $50,000 TVG Trot leg at the Meadowlands Friday night. Leaving from post 5, Svanstedt sent his charge away from the gate with authority and they crossed over well before the turn and then proceeded to control the race.
With no one testing Sebastian K to the half, Svanstedt got away with a :56 half after :27 to the opening quarter. Finally, just as the half time flashed, Tim Tetrick pulled Market Share first-over, but when Svanstedt pulled Sebastian K's ear plugs early in the stretch drive, Market Share didn't have a chance. Sebastian K shifted into another gear, trotting home in :26.2 for the mile in 1:50.3.
Sebastian K wouldn't stand for a winner's circle photo, but Svanstedt was interviewed by Bob "Hollywood" Heyden and said Sebastian K can trot even faster.
"He can go faster if I want, but he will wait for the others," he said.
Of his racing strategy, Svanstedt said his horse has plenty of gate speed, which was on display. "He can leave very fast if I want. He can do everything."
Sebastian K is now undefeated in three US starts for owner Knutsson Trotting AB.
Archangel, driven by Yannick Gingras, had the advantage of a two-hole trip and finished second while Market Share put his nose on the wire with DW's NY Yank but had the longer whisker to take third. The warrior Arch Madness was fifth.
