Second leg of Youthful tonight at Woodbine

April 03, 2009 Send To A Friend  | Print View

The latest protégé from trainer, Bob McIntosh has been burning up the track at Woodbine since the end of January, and Its A Good Thing shows no sign of stopping as he goes into the second leg of the Youthful Pacing Series on Friday night, April 3.

Its A Good Thing, a homebred son of Western Maverick–Sammartha Stewart (by Artsplace), has only been out of the money once in his 12-start career, and had already captured a series leg in the Apaches Fame series with a new lifetime speed mark, before trouncing his competition last week in the Youthful series opener, charging home a length and a half ahead of his nearest rival, St Lads Supersonic, in 1:53.3.

The morning line handicappers expect more good things from Its A Good Thing in the series sequel, and have listed the bay colt at even money. He’ll go to the gate in post position #7 in the second of the two $25,000 splits, with regular pilot Randy Waples sitting in the catbird seat.

There’s also considerable buzz about a lightly-raced colt named Oscar Oscar, who’ll go postward as part of a double entry from conditioner Tracy Brainard, in the first Youthful split on Friday night. Fresh from The Meadowlands and the shedrow of Justin Lebo, Oscar Oscar (by Western Terror–Cup of Jo) has only two starts under his belt, but sailed to the winner’s circle unchallenged in both of those efforts. He was nearly 10 lengths ahead of his nearest rival in his maiden start, and some three and a quarter lengths to the good in the second, on March 15.

Jody Jamieson will be doing the steering on Oscar Oscar, while Rick Zeron will be at the lines of his new stablemate, Power Off, who was fourth in the Youthful and will be looking for a better result. Both 3 year olds are owned by the Bulletproof Enterprises of Boca Raton, Florida, and are currently listed at 3-5. (WEG)
