The two-day Ohio Selected Jug Sale concluded Tuesday night, at the Eden Park Equestrian Complex near Delaware, with the sale producing an average price of $9,153 for the 150 yearlings sold. That represented a hefty increase from 2008, when approximately 225 yearlings sold for an average of $5,900.
"It was a huge sale, just a great, great sale," said sale manager Randy Manges, who earlier noted that the crowd was standing-room only.
The sale topper was a Nobeland Sam colt that sold for $34,000 on opening night to trainer Eric Hamlet on behalf of owner Jerome Osborne. The colt is a half sibling to $1 million winner Psiluvheartbreaker p,2, 1:55.3f; 1:59.3f.
The first horse sold on Tuesday, a colt by Dawn Ofa New Day, was the highest-priced yearling bought, with a bid of $23,000 from trainer Virgil Morgan Jr.
