Self Professed repeats in Dover trot

Self Professed won the $26,000 Open Trot for the second straight week on trot-filled Wednesday at Dover Downs. Jake's Nordic swept to victory in the $22,000 Jr. Open Trot and the sport's leading driver, Tony Morgan, added four wins to bring his 2008 total to 43.

Leaving from post one, Morgan directed Self Professed to the lead and then battled side-by-side with Mighty Moses and Jim Morand from the half until deep in the stretch before Self Professed pulled off for a 1:55.4 triumph. Martin Scharf owns the winner trained by Josh Green. The victory was the third in his last five starts for the 6-year-old gelding. Elvis Cole, driven by Corey Callahan, was third.

Jake's Nordic took the lead at the start and driver Tim Curtin steered a wire-to-wire 1:57 win to take a $22,000 Jr. Open Trot. Rattlesnake Jake, with George Dennis, rallied along the rail to no avail and finished second. Spunky Vic with Morgan was third. The win was the 57th for the 9 year old owned by Dan and Tom Courtemanche and upped his career bankroll to $692,558.

Ross Wolfenden teamed with Hollywood Andrew's Travelin Lite for a 1:57.1 victory in a $17,500 conditioned trot. Put Them On Hold (Jason Lynch) rolled down the lane to finish a close second. Go Sassy Go (George Dennis) was the show horse.

In another $17,500 section, Colleen and Paul Chamber's Sweet Daddy Siki teamed with Wolfenden wore down Altered States (Morgan) in the lane and finally got up at the wire in 1:56.4. Veteran Breeze Hill Will (Callahan) was the third-place finisher.

St. Lads Kingpin made it two in a row with a 1:53.4 victory in a $13,700 Delaware pace. Brandon Givens guided the Million Dollar Cam gelding home in 1:53.4 for his second straight victory and third score in his last four outings. It was the second win for Green training for Gary Green and Constance Moore. Fifth Wave (Dennis) and On His Way (Callahan) were second and third, respectively. (Dover Downs)
