The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board has announced it will issue up to six racetrack/casino licenses Sept. 27, with the sites likely to open in early 2007. The Pennsylvania law provides for 14 casinos to be approved in the state, including seven at racetracks, five at non-racetrack locations, and two at resort hotels.

Additionally, the Board has approved slot machine supplier licenses for two more companies, including one whose owners include former Pittsburgh Steelers player J.T. Thomas. Gaming Ventures LLC of Pittsburg is minority-owned, which was one of the goals of the slots law. The other license approved went to Winner Security LLC. Each company must pay a $25,000 fee for the license.
