Series finals at Yonkers

February 27, 2007 Send To A Friend  | Print View

The beginning of Yonkers Raceway's work week was highlighted by three divisional finals of the Empire City Non-Claiming Series. The $32,900 finale of Event 3 offered these $7,500 claimers a chance to race for more than four times their declared worth.

T Rex and driver Catello Manzi rolled from second-over to win rather comfortably. The pair, leaving from post position five, defeated Last Resort (Mike Forte) by 2 3/4 lengths in 1:56.4. Big John B (Georgr Brennan), last at the three-quarters, grabbed the bottom of the ticket, with Meantnodisrespect (Greg Grismore)--who cut the mile as the slight 2-1 choice--and Kingstar A (Pat Berry) making small change.

T Rex went wide down the backside around the struggling Ivory Chief (Dan Dube) after the latter was rebuffed in a quarter-move by the Meantnodisrespect

For T Rex, a 7-year-old statebred Magical Mike gelding, it was his fourth victory in seven seasonal sojourns. Carmine Fusco trained the winner for owner Robert Weinstein. T Rex retured $7.60 (third choice), with the exacta paying $48 and the triple worth $458.

Remember May A, owned by VIP Internet Stable, won the $15,800 distaff finale of Event 1, essentially a series for $4,000 claimers. Sitting pocketed from post No. 2 for driver Stephane Bouchard, the 10-year-old Down Under daughter of Walton Hanover zipped up the cones to whip Sidewalk Sleeper (Berry) by a length-and-a-quarter in 1:58.4.

Modern Millie (Mark Lancaster) was third, while Emissary N (Jim Pantaleano) and the pace-setting Gennessee Blue Chip (Manzi) earned the remainder. Remember May A--now six for seven this season--and Modern Millie were part of separate parmituel entries.

The winning Tim Case-trained pairing, sent off at 1-2, paid $3.10, leading a $13.40 exacta and $75.50 triple.

The $16,800 final of Event 1 for the boys had Jealous Clown, the longshot player's best friend, deliver once
again.

After winning his final two series tries at 25-1 amd 37-1, he was "only" a dozen-to-one from
the eight hole in the final. Trailing at every turn entering the lane, Jealous Clown and driver Forte never left the pylons.

Saving the ground, the 9-year-old Incredible Finale gelding prevailed by a half-length in a blanket 1:58. Conquiestdonor (Andy Miller) was second, with Island Storm (Dube) and the Pan I Love (Bouchard) in a heater for third. The first four finishers were a length apart under the line, while Magic Dancer (Mark Gingrich) came away with the final pay envelope.

Danny's Showboy (Berry), the tepid 2-1 favorite, jumped it off at the start and finished last.

Jealous Clown, owned by Tallman Stable and trained by Dennuis Laterza, paid $27.80 for his third win in seven '07 tries. The exacta returned $100, with the triples good for $293 (with Island Storm third) and $521 (with The Pan I Love third), respectively. (Yonkers)
