Seven to challenge Dewey in World Trotting Derby

Deweycheatumnhowe will start from post five when he faces seven other foes in Saturday’s $565,000 World Trotting Derby at the DuQuoin State Fair.
 

The Hambletonian winner will be seeking to extend his career unbeaten streak to 17 in the Derby. Among those who will be attempting to hand Dewey his first defeat is Clerk Magistrate, who finished fifth in the Hambletonian, but comes to Du Quoin fresh off an impressive 1:53.2 wire-to-wire victory in the American National at Balmoral Park.

A field of 10 sophomore filly trotters will line up for the $166,000 filly division of the Trotting Derby on Friday afternoon. Heading that field is 1:54.4 American National winner Lantern Kronos, who was also second in the Hambletonian Oaks.
