Valentine’s Day 2008 was a special one for driver Sam Widger as the 44-year-old Illinois native scored seven victories on the 12-race card at Maywood Park Thursday night.

Widger’s winning ways began in the third race, when he piloted Sand Happy Life to a 1:58 clocking.  He returned in the following race to score with Sporty Wrangler in 2:01.

In the sixth, Widger was behind Blissful Beauty who posted a 1:58.2 victory, beginning a five-race win streak for the maroon, white and light blue silked horseman. Artistic Ashely (1:56.3), Sporty Ellie (1:57.4), Puddin Tame (1:56.1), and Prisoner Of Hope (1:58.3) wrapped up Widger’s night.

Widger has garnered 2,871 career winners from 1986 to the present, amassing $20,884,885 in purse earnings, and finished 30th among all North American drivers in 2007 with 381 winners and $2,731,064.

In 2007 Widger finished third in the Balmoral Park driver standings, with 228 wins and $1,572,308 in earnings, and was fourth in the 2007 Maywood Park standings, with 106 wins and $616,635.

In the past ten years Widger has scored eight $1.4 million dollar or higher seasons.  In 2006 he put together his best ever year, with 437 winners who earned $3,375,043.
