A head loser in the opening leg of the Opening Bell, Sfumato turned the tables on his rivals Tuesday at The Meadows, scoring by that same margin in a $12,000 division of the second leg. Special Character and Monster Dragon took the other splits in the series for 3- and 4-year-old pacing colts and geldings. Sfumato and Brett Miller worked out a perfect pocket trip behind West Side Dragon, then kicked by in the lane to triumph in 1:53, a career best. It was a tough defeat for West Side Dragon, who now has lost two series divisions by a nose and head. Omar Pheeny finished third. Bill Kreutzer trains Sfumato, a 4-year-old gelded son of Real Artist-Silky Satin, and owns with Bill Wood. Dave Palone drove four winners on the 14-race card. (The Meadows)
