Shadow Play, the 2008 Little Brown Jug winner whose campaign this year has been marked by health issues, won a qualifier at The Red Mile Tuesday morning in 1:52.1. The 4-year-old son of The Panderosa has not raced since finishing third in the Canadian Pacing Derby elimination Aug. 29 at Mohawk.
Shadow Play has made just nine starts this year, with his three wins including a 1:47.4 effort in the U.S. Pacing Championship at the Meadowlands on Aug. 8. He later was scratched from his start in the Canadian Pacing Derby final by trainer and co-owner Dr. Ian Moore after coming up sick. Other issues Shadow Play has had to deal with this year includes a foot problem as well as an eye laceration that kept him out of the Breeders Crown prep.
David Miller was behind Shadow Play in the qualifier at The Red Mile. Overall, Shadow Play has earned more than $346,000 this year and has lifetime earnings topping $1.5 million.
