Shake Away equals her mark

Shake Away, whose first foal, a Western Hanover colt, was sold as a yearling at Harrisburg last month, scored the first win of her comeback, conquering seven rivals in a powerful 1:51 triumph to win the $24,000 Filly and Mare Open-Handicap Pace Tuesday night at Dover Downs.

In her seventh start back after sustaining a leg injury early last spring, the Shake Away of old, trained and driven by Jim King, took no prisoners en route to a four-length victory, equaling her lifetime record of 1:51.

The clocking is only three-fifth of a second off the track and world record for a senior mare pacer to win the $24,000 feature. The victory was the sixth of 2006 for Shake Away, a 6-year-old daughter of Dream Away leased by JoAnn King and JEB Enterprises. She lifted her season bankroll to $112,570 and now sports career earnings of $321,485.

Shake Away's Western Hanover colt brought $22,000 when it went through the ring at the Standardbred Horse Sales auction in Harrisburg last month. The mare was bred to The Panderosa in 2005 and 2006 but did not get in foal, hence her return to racing.
