Eleven older horses lined up behind the gate in an Allerage Farms elimination Saturday afternoon at The Red Mile, with only the last-place finisher not returning next weekend for the rich final. George Brennan directed Shark Gesture to the 1:49.2 victory, the 6-year-old son of Cam's Card Shark's seventh win of the year in 26 starts.
Shark Gesture held the lead down the stretch as Brennan kept his charge straight, not allowing Brian Sears to edge up the inside with Mister Big, who had to settle for runner-up honors. Art Official finished third for Ron Pierce. Martha Mazine, who finished last, will not make a return appearance in the final.
Ray Remmen trains Shark Gesture for owners Norm and Gerald Smiley and TLP Stable. Shark Gesture's 2009 earnings now stand at $907,695 with his win in the $10,000 elim. His career earnings are $1,871,626.
