Indiana Downs played host to the opening round of Indiana Sires Stakes action for freshman filly pacers Monday afternoon, July 21. Three $15,000 divisions were carded, with Andy Shetler guiding winners in two of the splits. In the first division Shetler and VIP Filly wired the field to take top prize in 1:55.4, winning by a length. The V P Finance filly, owned by Ellis G. Miller of Florida, is also trained by the driver. Dream Work fillies Truly Dreamy and JNB N Me garnered second and third. In the second split Shetler and Silent Lea received every call in a nine and one-quarter lengths romp over the Indiana Downs’ oval. The Mark Hipsher-trained daughter from the first crop of Kilowatt completed the circuit in 1:55.2. The freshman, owned by Bruce Berger of Alabama, is perfect in six starts, five of which came on the fair circuit. Lifeinmargaritavil raced second while Hervette Bluegrass finished third. Roses For Mom captured the last $15,000 division with a 1:57.3 performance. Owned, bred and trained by Don Eash, the Whitefish Falls freshman won by two and one-half lengths over Ey-Wilwe Bluegrass (Western Hero). Sapphire Martini (Dream Work) finished third.
