Indiana Sires Stakes action continued Wednesday, July 29 at Indiana Downs with three divisions for freshman colt and gelding trotters. Driver Dan Shetler won two of the $25,000 legs, piloting ABC Photo and Super Beat to victories. CJ’s Rascal and Joe Putnam won the third division.
Heavy favorite ABC Photo took control after a 1:01.3 opening half in the first division and cruised to a five and one-quarter length victory for Shetler in 2:01.4. Earl’s Glider finished a distant second and Cherishment was third. The ABC Garland gelding, trained by Bobby Brower for DM Stables LLC, won his third consecutive contest Wednesday in what turned out to be the fastest of the three splits.
Shetler returned to the winner’s circle in the next $25,000 division, guiding the Verlin Yoder-trained Super Beat to a half-length victory. The Super Ben Joe colt passed Atta Boy Ranger and Master’s Secret to score his first career win. Super Beat is owned by Yoder, who scored a training double Wednesday evening.
The final split went to CJ’s Secret colt CJ’s Rascal and Putnam in a time of 2:02.1. Trained by Wilbur Eash, the public’s second choice won by a length and a half. Costeffective Don and Jay Cross closed for second while Skyway Cruiser faded to third. It was the first career tally for CJ’s Rascal.
The first preliminary leg of Indiana Sires Stakes action for sophomore trotting fillies was also held Wednesday evening, with J Rs Star and Cross putting a neck in front of favorite Primetime Patsy in 1:57.4. Trained and owned by Yoder, the New And Notable filly pushed her seasonal earnings to over $119,000 with the win. ABC Ez Credit, the other half of the trainer’s entry, finished third.
