Shibboleth Hanover pulled off a major upset in Tompkins-Geers action for 3-year-old trotting colts on Sunday afternoon at Tioga Downs as the colt put his nose on the wire first in 1:56.3, edging Judge Joe’s 2009 undefeated status.
Jeff Gregory got a two-hole trip behind Judge Joe and driver D.R. Ackerman and Judge Joe. The duo rolled through fractions of :28.3,: 59 and 1:28.2 before the battle raged at the top of the stretch with Shibboleth Hanover defeating Judge Joe.
It was the second win in seven seasonal starts for Shibboleth Hanover, a SJ’s Caviar. Clarence Martin Jr. trains the colt for Maple Ridge Stable and Mary Martin of Pa. The mile of 1:56.3 established a new lifetime mark for Shibboleth Hanover, who increased his seasonal earnings to more than $37,000 with the victory. In the other division for 3-year-old colt trotters, Tip The Tide and trainer-driver Howard Okusko Jr. rolled on the front to score in 1:57.4 for Purple Haze Stables LLC of Fairport, NY. (Tioga)
