Shirley Mae Cuthbert Reid, 73, of Argyle, NY, the mother of David Reid, a familiar face in harness racing through his work with Preferred Equine Marketing and the Lexington Selected and Tattersalls sales companies, died at her home surrounded by her family on Jan. 30 after a courageous fight with pulmonary fibrosis.
On Sept. 28, 1956, Shirley married Donald H. Reid in the North Argyle United Presbyterian Church. They shared nearly 53 years of marriage, just before Don’s passing on September 23, 2009. Shirley and Don enjoyed vacationing with family in Kennebunkport, Maine for many years.
She is survived by her four children, Richard (Mary) of Amsterdam, NY, Steven (Marlene) of Argyle, Mindy of Argyle, and David (Jeanette) of Briarcliff Manor; her grandchildren, Marianne Reid of Amsterdam, Amy (Mark) Ward of Broadalbin, Nicole (Jeremy) Sikorski of Wilmington, NC, Kyle (Shanna) Reid of Argyle, and Savina and Brianna Reid of Briarcliff Manor; eight great-grandchildren (Kaylee, J.R., Brayden, Brianne, Jace, Noah, Jett, and Tyler); brothers Robert (Sis) Cuthbert of Hartford and Randy (Diane) Cuthbert; a sister, Cheryl (Jim) Hutchison; as well several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A funeral service was held Thursday, Feb. 2, at Argyle United Methodist Church.
