David Siegel became the world's fastest amateur driver recently when he directed the 5-year-old Dream Away gelding My Roomie to a 1:52.2 victory at Cal Expo. The time lowered the mark set by Mal Burroughs when he drove Malabar Man to a 1:53.1 win in the first heat of the World Trotting Derby at Du Quoin in 1997. The fastest pacing mile by an amateur driver was Kevin Holcomb's 1:53.3 win with Wanted Man at The Red Mile in 1991.
