Blissfull Silence paced to a victory in the $8,200 Open event at Rosecroft Raceway on Monday after sitting in the pocket behind the betting favorite Dixie Pride. The 6-year-old Blissfull Hall gelding left the gate from post five and dropped in along the rail with Donnie Russell at his lines. Owned and trained by Trevor Stafford, Blissfull Silence tracked the leader through swift fractions of :29, :58.2 and 1:25.3 to win in a season’s best time of 1:54.2.

JJ’s Artiscape tipped out at the top of the stretch under the guidance of driver Corey Callahan to close for second. Overlooked at 8-1 odds, the 6-year-old Artiscape gelding was a winner last week against easier in 1:56.2. Robert Davidson Jr. trains the gelding for owners Mayanne Karmin and Sydell Stone.

Dixie Pride, driven by Joe Offutt, tired late after pacing gamely through a 27.1 third quarter. The 6-year-old Real Artist horse put in a valiant effort, but gave way in the stretch to finish third. Dixie Pride, co-owned by George Aide and trainer-driver Offutt, was victorious in this class last week with a mile timed in 1:53.

Due to the low temperature and blustering winds, a two-second allowance was given on all races.

Heather Ronay’s Pleasing Artist made up ground in the stretch to win a conditioned pace worth $6,000 named in honor of Dr. Frank Trotto on Monday.

The 6-year-old Real Artist gelding, driven to his first victory of the season by John Wagner, sat patiently along the rail in third through the opening fractions of :28.2, :58 and 1:25.4. Wagner guided Pleasing Artist through a :29.1 final quarter to win by half of a length in 1:55.1. Manley Brown Jr. trains the winner of over $165,000 lifetime.

Second under the wire was Heat Zone and driver Frank Milby. The 12-year-old Walton Hanover stallion owned by Robert Leager Jr. paced second over behind Elaine T Cronos (Luis Porfilio) to close in :29.1. Robert Leager trains the horse.

Elaine T Cronos held on for third to complete the $580.00 trifecta. (Rosecroft)
