Silent Swing made short work of his competition in the first of two $38,200 Winbak Pace for older horses Thursday afternoon at the Delaware, Ohio fairgrounds with an open-lengths win in 1:50.3. Driven by Phil Hudon, Silent Swing was all alone at the wire as he won for the fifth straight time.
Eagle Luck and driver Jody Jamieson finished a distant second with Jandj Art third for Andy Miller.
A 5-year-old gelded son of Northern Luck, Silent Swing won the famous Gold Cup & Saucer race at Charlottetown Driving Park in Nova Scotia last month. He is trained by Jean Louis Arsenault, who also conditions this year's sensational freshman Somebeachsomewhere, who won the $1 million Metro at Mohawk on Sept. 1.
Owned by David Shea and Reginald Pettipas, Silent Swing won for the seventh time this year in 23 starts and 21st time in 77 career outings. The victory increased his career earnings to more than $645,000.
Gold Dust Beach led from start to finish in the second $38,200 Winbak Farm division for driver David Miller, holding off the pocket-sitting Jereme's Jet (Tim Tetrick) by a neck under the wire in 1:49.3. Mypanmar (John Campbell) was third. The 3-5 favorite Lis Mara was pulled from third approaching the half by driver Brian Sears but was quickly sent back to the rail and was a non-factor fifth.
Joe Holloway trains the winning 5-year-old son of Jenna's Beach Boy for owners Lee and Linda DeVisser. The win was his fifth of the year in 24 starts, and 20th overall in 69 career stars. Sent off at odds of 4-1 in his Winbak split, Gold Dust Beach surpassed the $600,000 mark with the victory. The time was the fastest of 2007 by a pacer on a half-mile track, besting the 1:49.4 set by Maltese Artist in April at Northfield Park.
