Owner Jerry Silva said late last week he had entered negotiations to purchase a share of the undefeated 3-year-old colt pacer Somebeachsomewhere, and on Tuesday afternoon he reiterated that the talks are still ongoing with the Schooner Stables’ Brent MacGrath and no deal has yet to take place. “There have been many rumors, and there are on-going conversations between me, an agent, the principles, and other investors, and we’re trying to put a deal together,” Silva told harnessracing.com. “We had conversations over the weekend and today regarding the horse, but nothing at all has been finalized.” One published report has Silva purchasing one-third of the reigning Dan Patch and O’Brien Award winner for $8 million, and other stories have Silva’s share as being one-third of the $8 million, but he said the reports are inaccurate. “(The price) is very high, and ($8 million) for the whole horse, even that is way too high,” Silva answered when asked about the possible price for the world champion (1:49.3 in the $950,000 Metro final) son of Mach Three who was six-for-six and earned $773,296 last year for MacGrath and his partners in the Schooner Stable. “We’re talking to them because that’s their perspective of what the horse is worth.” Silva, who recently made headlines with his $1 million purchase of a three-horse package that included the 2007 Three-Year-Old Filly Pacer of the Year Southwind Tempo, the 3-year-old filly pacer Thong and a freshman trotting filly, said he has set no deadline to purchase a share of Somebeachsomewhere.
“There is a dialogue and there’s no rush because there is nothing happening between now and June when the horse is going to race,” said Silva. “The horse has not been vetted. We’re still working on a deal that would be beneficial to the buyer and the seller. And we haven’t found that deal yet.”
