Jerry Silva has been voted the 2008 Owner of the Year and Tim Tetrick the 2008 Driver of the Year by members of the U.S. Harness Writers Association. It is the second consecutive year the 27-year-old Tetrick has been named Driver of the Year. Silva, 74, shares ownership of several horses, and continues to purchase interests in some of the sport’s biggest stars. As part of the Deweycheatumnhowe Stable, Silva was in the winner’s circle for the 3-year-old colt trotter Deweycheatumnhowe's many victories, which included the Hambletonian, Kentucky Futurity, World Trotting Derby and Canadian Trotting Classic. Another trotter Silva shares ownership of is the early-book favorite for the 2009 Hambletonian, Muscle Hill, who trotted to a world-record 1:53.3 victory in this year’s Breeders Crown final in late November at the Meadowlands. During the summer Silva purchased an interest in the older horse Enough Talk, who has since become the fastest trotter of all-time with his 1:49.3 effort at Colonial Downs. On the pacing side, Silva is co-owner of Tug River Princess, a model of consistency throughout her long 3-year-old campaign, and the pacing mare Southwind Tempo, who earned more than $400,000 this year. As for Tetrick, last year he broke the sport’s records for wins (1,189) and earnings ($18.3 million) and this year he broke his own money mark as he neared the $20-million level. His 2008 season is over though as he recently had hip replacement surgery, leaving his numbers at 902 victories and earnings of $19.7 million. Tetrick’s biggest victories this year came with the 3-year-old colt trotter Crazed, who won the $500,000 Colonial Trot at Harrah’s
