Silver Dragon, Pro Art win again in Youthful Stakes

April 05, 2008 Send To A Friend  | Print View

In performances which were almost carbon copies of their victories in the opening round of the Youthful Stakes one week ago, Silver Dragon and Pro Art repeated their winning ways in round two tonight, with Luc Ouellette once again at the controls for both geldings.

In the first of the two splits, Kevin McMaster pupil Silver Dragon left smartly from post six, went straight to the front, and was never seriously challenged.  The son of Dragon Again crossed the wire all alone in 1:51.4, four and a half lengths ahead of Scottery Tickets (Chris Christoforou).  Carter In Motion and Paul MacDonell grabbed third place.

And in the second split, it was Pro Art for the second week in a row, using the same strategy from post position five.  Ouellette hustled the son of Artsplace through fractions of :26.4, :55.2, and 1:24.1 and crossed the wire one and three-quarters lengths ahead of the nearest challenger, The Comedian (Jody Jamieson), stopping the timers in 1:52.1. Egyptian Artist and Jack Moiseyev took the show spot.

Silver Dragon, who is owned by David Ratchford of North Sydney, Nova Scotia, and Pro Art, owned by Dean Davis and James Snyder of Wooster, Ohio, are now set to duke it out for the series sweep.  The $60,000 (est.) final of the Youthful series will be featured next Friday night, April 11, at Woodbine.
