Drivers Richie Silverman and Daniel Dube, two of the six drivers most severely injured in a Friday, June 18 crash at the Meadowlands, are each making progress recovering from their injuries.

Dube, 41, fractured two vertebrae in his lower back and a carpal bone in his right hand.  He also received stitches in his left elbow and knees. He has no memory of the accident and was released from the hospital on Saturday. He is recuperating at home in New Jersey.

“I feel a little better,” Dube told harnessracing.com. “I’m still in a lot of pain. My back was injured above my tailbone underneath the vest on the lower right hand side. There are two hairline fractures of the vertebrae. They say it will take about six weeks or so give or take. But the way we went down, we were lucky we didn’t get more hurt.”

Richie Silverman, 45, who suffered a severe concussion and two broken ankles in the accident, is healing and is in good spirits, although still in Hackensack University Medical Center, according to his father, Jerry Silverman.

“He’s doing much better,” said Jerry Silverman. “He’s had surgery on both his ankles and they are both in soft casts. He’s having an MRI this afternoon and a brain scan. He’s had three CAT scans and they were all good. This is what’s happening now.”

Silverman added that his son would also be in a wheelchair for six weeks, followed by a stay at another hospital where he’ll learn to get around in the wheelchair.

“All told they are thinking he’ll be out 12 weeks,” said the senior Silverman. “We are really missing him, I felt it when I trained the horses this morning. I said, ‘Where is he?’"

Despite the long road ahead, Silverman said his son remains in a good mood. “His spirits are good, he’s up and about and smiling and laughing. He dozes off a bit, but he’s happy because his wife and two daughters are with him.” (harnessracing.com)
