The John Simpson Memorial stake for 2-year-old filly trotters drew 32 declarations resulting in four divisions of eight with each going for a purse of $10,500 Thursday night at The Red Mile.

The morning-line choice in the first split will be Loggia, a filly from the first crop of international star Varenne. Hailing from the Jonas Czernyson barn, Loggia won a pair of the Kindergarten Early Closers at Tioga Downs, the fastest in 2:01.3 for owner Menhammar Stable. A couple of Andover Hall fillies look to be contenders as well. South Hanover comes in from The Meadows for trainer Dane Snyder off of an overnight win and Beryl’s Flight, though winless in eight starts, has very consistent form.

Division two is clearly the deepest on paper. Likeavirgin Lindy picked up over $50,000 in the recently concluded KYSS series and, though still a maiden, has been on the board in all five starts for the Noel Daley barn and owners Adam Victor & Son. Chez Lucie won her elimination for the Merrie Annabelle and led most of the way before finishing fourth (placed third) in that final. She qualified back sharply here in Lexington on Friday. Fabulous Kemp shows great promise for the Takter stable, trotting to a 1:59.1 record in her last start. Another with strong credentials is Don Swick’s Wishful Me, who packs a powerful closing kick.

Sheer Soul leads division three for owners Al Libfeld and Marvin Katz despite drawing the outside post eight. She has a 2:00 win over the course and was a closing second in the Hayes Memorial at Du Quoin in 1:57.3. Dream N Lindy, from the Takter Stable, has been second in all three of her career appearances at The Red Mile with strong closing fractions in each.

The fourth division features a trio of nice Conway Hall fillies. Society Hall was second best in a division of the Horseman at Indianapolis and was placed second in the Review at Springfield for the Joe Seekman outfit. New Day has been coming along nicely for trainer Jan Johnson, boasting a sub 2:00 at The Red Mile and Sexpot Hall comes to the big track after some successes in the NYSS program. (Red Mile)
