Tweedle Dum romped by 4 1/2 lengths in scoring his 21st victory of the 2006 season Wednesday at Pompano Park, with the 6-year-old gelding by Star Challenge ending the season as the winningest trotter in North America this year. Talk About Me (Anthony Napolitano) was second with Guy Gets Girl (Bruce Ranger) third.
Leaving from post nine for driver Walter Ross Jr., Tweedle Dum took control of the lead by the opening quarter mile and never looked back, holding the field at bay in the $10,000 Open Handicap Trot. He covered the one-mile race in 1:55.4.
This year Tweedle Dum has earned $113,000 for owners Diane Norris and Alfred Brotter of Pompano Beach and never left the grounds of the racetrack. Tweedle Dum is trained by Gordon Norris and ends the year with 31 starts, 21 wins, four seconds and two third-place finishes. During the course of the season he tied the all-age track record with a 1:53.3 triumph and set the track standard for most wins by any horse in a single season at 21. Wednesday’s victory was Tweedle Dum’s sixth straight win.
Tweedle Dum is an expected starter in the upcoming $125,000 Mack Lobell Trotting Series that gets underway at Pompano Park Feb. 2, and would be the early favorite to win the series. (Pompano Park)
