With a big stretch rally Slave Dream captured the first of two $18,000 Hiram Woodruff Trot divisions Thursday night at the Meadowlands.

Driver John Campbell and Slave Dream left the pylons at the top of the stretch and flew past tiring leaders John Paul’s Legacy and Rompaway Alvin to win the night’s third race in a lifetime best of 1:53 ($12.60). It was a photo for place, with John Paul’s Legacy finishing a nose ahead of Rompaway Alvin.

The son of Pearsall Hanover-Hunarie F has now won five out of eight starts this year for trainer Pierre Couture. Slave Dream increased his lifetime earnings to more than $165,000 for owners Franco Cianci and Isidoro Russo.

Pine After Pine and driver Ron Pierce coasted wire to wire in the second division of the Hiram Woodruff in 1:54.1. Stood Alone finished a neck behind in second and Twin B Navigator was third.

The Hiram Woodruff Series continues with an $18,000 second leg on Thursday, May 14 and estimated $45,000 final on May 21. (Meadowlands)
