Slave Dream wins Riedel Memorial Trot

April 07, 2009 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Slave Dream ($8.40) swept three wide on the final turn and gunned down Farmer Jones to win the $16,000 Hubert Riedel Memorial Trot Monday at the Isle Pompano Park.

The feature saw some early hardball as Diva Diva (Andy Santeramo), the lone mare in the field, parked out race favorite Blessed Victory (Dan Clements) past the opening quarter mile in :27.1. Once settled in on the lead, Blessed Victory would see little relief as after the half mile marker in :56.4, Farmer Jones (Kevin Wallis) would take up the chase coming first-over.

Down the backstretch Farmer Jones gained ground on the leaders and was able to collar and then pass Blessed Victory at the three-quarter mile pole in 1:25.2 as driver David Ingraham moved Slave Dream three wide to loop the field and start to mount their challenge.

Drawing away with the lead starting down the stretch, Farmer Jones looked to be home free but Ingraham had Slave Dream trotting up a storm and they were able to catch Farmer Jones before the wire to win by three-quarters of a length in 1:55. Farmer Jones held for second with Karpathos (Anthony Napolitano) third.

It was the first win in four starts this year and a lifetime record for Slave Dream, a 4-year-old gelded son of Pearsall Hanover, who is trained by Jean Beaulieu and is owned by Franco Cianci, Isidoro Russo and Vincenzo Monticciolo of Quebec.

The race was named in memory of long time horse owner and Pompano Park patron, Hubert Riedel, who passed away last year. Riedel owned more than 200 race horse during his career. His top horse was $600,000 winner, Final Score. He also owned the popular Gold Coast Car Rental Agency in Ft. Lauderdale. (Pompano Park)
