Slots bills filed in Indiana

Return Home
January 12, 2007 Send To A Friend  | Print View

It appears Indiana legislators will soon be considering another bill to put slot machines at the state’s racetracks, and some observers in the state think the conditions for a favorable vote are the best in years. Two bills have already been filed in the House. The proposals will be debated in the House Public Policy Committee, but hearing dates have not yet been scheduled.

House Bill 1402 calls for allowing 1,500 slot machines at Hoosier Park, Indiana Downs, and at off-track betting parlors in Indianapolis and Fort Wayne. The bill was filed by Rep. Scott Reske, a Democrat from Anderson, where Hoosier Park is located. He said slots at those locations would raise more than $200 million in annual revenue.

House Bill 1441, filed by Rep. Terri Austin, also a Democrat from Anderson, calls for allowing up to 2,500 slot machines at the two tracks, but not at the OTB sites. The two bills also differ in regard to where the money goes.
