Small plane crashes at Brittany Farms

A small plane crashed in a field at Brittany Farms just outside of Lexington, Ky., late Tuesday afternoon, but miraculously the two persons on the aircraft were not seriously hurt nor were any horses or people on the ground involved in any way.

 

The Cessna 150, a single-engine two-seater plane was returning to Lexington's Bluegrass Airport after a trip to Owensboro, Ky. The plane, leased to the Lexington Flying Club, carried one pilot and one passenger when it crashed around 4 o'clock. Although local television reports from the site stated the plane suffered engine failure, Brittany Farms' general manager Art Zubrod, who was not at the farm at the time but returned shortly after, said one of the persons told him that they had run out of gas.

 

"They're lucky to be alive," said Zubrod. "One of the guys on the plane told me he thought he was going to die."

 

Zubrod added that the pilot had several options while trying to land the faltering plane, but passed over a couple of fields because of homes and horses. Zubrod said the plane landed on a vacant area at Brittany and then slid into a fence. He stressed that at no time were any horses in any danger.
