Snowshoes fit nicely on Moiseyev

There was no beating driver Jack Moiseyev in Friday's second leg of the Snowshoe Pacing Series for 3 and 4-year-old colts and geldings at Woodbine Racetrack as he reined home
both divisional winners.

In the opening $20,000(C) contest, the veteran pilot seized control early with race favorite Herestopatrick and then held on for a hard-fought head decision in 1:54.3. Shiny Mach turned in a gritty first-over effort to finish second with longshot Power Off a rallying third.

It was the first win in two tries this season for the 3-year-old gelded son of Apaches Fame-Sippin Time who is trained by Mark Austin for owner Michael Cecile of Windsor, Ont. The lion's share of the purse sent him just over $50,000 lifetime.

Moiseyev wasted no time in sending Mighty Me to the front from post nine in the second split and the three-year-old gelded son of Western Hanover-Firststariseetonite wired the field in 1:54.

The hard-closing favorite, Carat Hanover, had too much work to do as the field turned for home and fell a nose short at the finish. It was another half-length back to Steals A Kiss who rallied stoutly to grab the show spot.

The victory for the Robin Furlong trainee was the fifth in just six career tries and boosted his bankroll to just over $44,000 for owner Mike Wassilyn of Toronto.
 
The $45,000(C) Snowshoe Series final will be contested next Friday night at Woodbine. (WEG)
