Co-owner Curtis Larrimore told harnessracing.com Wednesday afternoon that world champion filly trotter Snow White has been turned out for the year but will return to the races for her 4-year-old season in 2009.
By missing the Oct. 3 Kentucky Filly Futurity at The Red Mile, Snow White will not be returning to the site of her world-record 1:52.4 victory last fall in an International Stallion Stakes division, the fastest mile ever posted by a freshman trotter regardless of sex.
"We decided to turn her out for the year, let Mother Nature take its course, and bring her back early next year as a 4 year old," said Larrimore.
Snow White made her last appearance of 2008 in the $500,000 Colonial Trot at Harrah's Chester, taking on the colts for the first time, finishing seventh. Overall, she had three wins in six starts this year, including the $300,000 Delvin Miller Memorial at the Meadowlands. She had been inconsistent though, making a break in her Hambletonian Oaks elim and failing to make the $750,000 final.
Last year, Snow White won 14 of 19 starts and earned $1,252,646, the most ever by a first-year trotter. She was later voted 2007 Two-Year-Old Filly Trotter of the Year and finished third behind Donato Hanover and Deweycheatumnhowe in balloting for Horse of the Year.
